Earth Hour of 28th March 2009
Lights out for an hour, in respective time zone from 8.30 pm to 9.30pm.
i celebrated it with sue and my cousin brother, ah ping at IKEA... we had our dinner there, ikea swedish restaurant.. it was crowded...
In conjunction with this Earth Hour, Ikea showed their support by organizing a candle light dinner !!
8.30pm, the lights at the restaurant were off...
count down : five, four, three, two, one....

the restaurant were in the dark for few seconds and here they (ikea's staffs) came with laterns.
so called "candle light dinner", romantic desu ka ??
we had our dinner in the dark.... can you c our foods ??? neither i could...
its so difficult to eat with this faint light, i barely c my foods..i wouldnt know if there is a cockcroah in my foods !!
However, i personally think its a bit ironic... why ?? Earth Hour is a measure taken to stimulate awareness of every individual nationwide towards the need to take action on climate change. Yes, they turned off lights but lighted up candles..... ???? Combustion releases CO2 which heating up the earth and hence brings global warming effect, and ultimately climate change ... dont u think what those people did, turned off lights but lighted up candles does not serve the purpose of the event/campaign ......
A true incident that i encountered :
i helped mum to jaga kedai on Saturday, 280309. In the morning, an aunt came and sought help to repair her torchlight.. she told me she needs it urgently. I asked her why ???
She said : tonight got no electricity supply mar, TNB is going to cut off the current supply tonight !!!
huh ???? what la... i explained to her what the Earth Hour is ... and there is obligation for anyone to turn off lights...
this earth hour campaign is not only for this one day. it is to create awareness for ppl to switch off any unused electrical appliances (not only lights lar). it's an on-going effort spanning all walks of life.
ReplyDeletethis earth hour campaign is actually a voting campaign: switch off your lights to vote for earth or leave it on to vote for global warming.
as for the energy consumption, i don't think 1 hour of cutting off the lights or burning candles will make any difference lar...

ReplyDeletethe fact is how many peoples did it to vote for earth ??? i think majority of them did the sake of fun...
no lar... i think the fact that they are switching off the lights, means they are aware of the campaign. i don't think sitting in the dark for one hour is 'fun'. most ppl do it because they know they are doing something meaningful, even if they don't know the full meaning of the campaign.
