July 2007, sue and i went to Cambodia.. before that, we already planned to bring candy for the children there.. still, we forgot abt it till v reached KLIA. Being no choice, we were obliged to buy the chocolate in the airport which is much expensive.. and v chose the cute ladybird chocloate and was of opinion that these cute chocolate for sure would fascinate them..
At hindsight, sue and i learned that what they actually they need are food and money as they are too poor. Frill and decoration are not the neccesities at all... so, v knew what are more appropriate to bring next time, for instance, more nutritious food instead of candies, no frill stationaries....
Later on, we found out this concert was held by a paediatric from Switzerland, Dr. Beat. His passion and determination in helping the sick, the poverty moved me a lot... He can no doubt has luxury life and make a lucrative income with his profession in his homeland, what made him here.. running a hospital for children without the help and support from corruptive local governement.. is passion, passion for life, passion for love....
He holds the cello concert on every Saturday night, with the hope that more donations will come from the foreign tourists...
Take my hat off for you, Dr. Beat
While in hospital, Terry was so overcome by the suffering of other cancer patients, many of them young children, that he decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research.
He would call his journey the Marathon of Hope.
After 18 months and running over 5,000 kilometres (3,107 miles) to prepare, Terry started his run in St. John抯, Newfoundland on April 12, 1980 with little fanfare. Although it was difficult to garner attention in the beginning, enthusiasm soon grew, and the money collected along his route began to mount. He ran 42 kilometres (26 miles) a day through Canada's Atlantic provinces, Quebec and Ontario.
It was a journey that Canadians never forgot.
However, on September 1st, after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres (3,339 miles), Terry was forced to stop running outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario because cancer had appeared in his lungs. An entire nation was stunned and saddened. Terry passed away on June 28, 1981 at age 22.
